Barton Creek Greenbelt Mountain Biking and Austin Music

Barton Creek greenbelt Austin texas mountain bikingThe Barton Creek Greenbelt in Austin Offers Year Round Mountain Biking.  Miles of trails weave in and out and up and down along the Barton Creek Greenbelt just south of Downtown Austin.  Rock ledges and narrow cliff side trails challenge the most technical riders, and only the most skilled can navigate the more remote parts of the Barton Creek Greenbelt.

Plenty of easier trails start at the beginning of the greenbelt, and it’s unlikely that you’ll run across the hard stuff if you don’t know where to look.  So, the Barton Creek Greenbelt offers plenty of fun for every level of mountain biker.

Matt Bartlett videos the mountain biking with his go pro, and local Austin musician, Curtis Pierce, provides the background music.

Lake Travis Texas in the Top 10 for Stand up Jet Skiing

Lake Travis Texas is one of the top 10 favorite spots for stand up jet ski enthusiasts.  The lake is over 65 miles long, so even in a drought, there is plenty of lake to play on.  Plus, the water is crystal clear because the lake bottom is mostly limestone.  In this video, you’ll see some muddy water at the beginning because when the lake is low, our dock is situated over a sandy section of the lake bottom.  Toward the end, though, you’ll notice how clearly you can see my son underneath the water.  So, you have the best of both worlds with sandy shores to pull up on and clear water to land in.

This video was taken on the main body of Lake Travis Texas just a mile or two up from the Mansfield Dam and across from Windy Point.  A couple of weeks ago, my son drove up the lake to Pace Bend Park to participate in a stand up jet ski extravaganza.  This is a fun event that includes a buoy course and plenty of wake jumping.  You’ll find all kinds of skis, from 550’s to SXR’s.  They had over 30 skis on the lake and hope to meet up again next year.

If you’re a stand up jet ski enthusiast, you may want to consider a move to Lake Travis Texas.  Contact me at 512-266-2606.  Search all Austin Real Estate Listings right here on this site.

Austin Farmers Markets

Austin Farmers Markets are located in all areas of Austin and offer locally-grown, fresh fruits and vegetables.  Weekends are a good time to visit the stands of these local farmers so that you can select some great, organic foods.

Many Austin Farmers markets are located near shopping malls, so that you can include a stop there during your weekend shopping.  You’ll find farmers markets surrounding Austin, as well, in Georgetown, Round Rock, Dripping Springs and other areas of Central Texas.

Independence Title Company graciously provided me with a great flyer that lists all the locations of the Austin farmers markets, along with their hours and web sites.  Follow this link to all Ausitn Farmers Markets, and enjoy some fresh veges!

Mountain Biking in Austin Texas Can Be Extreme!

You may not know this, but mountain biking in Austin Texas can be extreme!  Vancouver, Colorado, Arizona, California and many other mountain states may offer extreme trails, but Austin Texas can compete if you know where to go.

Barton Creek greenbelt Austin texas mountain bikingAustin Texas is home to all types and levels of bike riders, including, of course, one road biker in a yellow jersey.  But, even Lance has been spotted on the milder mountain bike trails in the Austin area.  The “inner circle” extreme mountain bikers love to gaffaw at him when they see him step off.  Everyone else, I’m sure, just admires the guy for everything he’s done for his sport, his charity, and for the Austin area.  But extreme mountain bikers enjoy giving each other a hard time.

What are the extreme trails like in Austin?  Single track winds through scrub cedar over and along caliche rock ledges.  Some sections are littered with rubble-ly piles of limestone that turns to slippery marbles when wet.  Most trails wind along creeks, which are either dried up or gushing, depending on whether Austin is in a drought or a flood.  Extreme mountain bikers hate it when hikers or “regular” mountain biking folks “groom” the trail.  “Grooming” is when novices or other intruders move rocks aside to keep the trail smooth.  Almost all of the extreme trails in Austin were built by the “inner circle” extreme riders.  They’ve worked hard to make the trails challenging and fun, so they don’t appreciate when Sunday strollers and cruisers adopt their trails and change them.

If you’re not in tip-top physical condition with a high-end bike, stay away from the extreme trails.  You would spend most of your time walking and carrying your bike.  Extreme mountain bikers in Austin ride approximately 20 miles of grueling up and down single track at least 3-4 days per week.

Kinder, gentler mountain biking trails can also be found in the Austin Texas area.  The Barton Hills greenbelt, Walnut Creek greenbelt and many other areas provide miles of smoother trails with fewer rocks and ledges.

Winter Scenery along Hamilton Greenbelt in Lakeway Texas Worth a Hike

Winter Scenery along Hamilton Greenbelt in Lakeway Texas Worth a Hike.  You may have missed the fall colors, and it’s a few months away before we have spring buds.  Still, a nice winter hike on the Hamilton Greenbelt in Lakeway provides lots to look at.  I took advantage of our 70 degree sunny day today and hiked the 3 – 4 miles of trails just off Lohman’s Crossing in Lakeway.
